Chaga (Inontus obliquus) grows on a variety of trees, but is only advisable to harvest from living birch trees. It is a parasitic fungus that is found typically on older trees. When harvesting chaga, it doesn't actually kill the fungus, because that fungus is found through out the entire tree. The chaga will regrow within 3-10 years. So ethical harvesting is a must!!
